YOUR LOCAL COUNCILLOR UPDATE

 – 26th February 2021

It is disappointing to report that our district wide rates have increased this week which emphasises the importance of not letting complacency set in, despite the continuing success of the vaccine roll out which places South Warwickshire in second place nationally on having vaccinated the most over 65’s vaccines in terms of population percentage.

The figures over the last seven days are up to 91/100,000 from 83 last week, but the over 60’s rate has fallen to 50/100,000 (74 last week) (with 21 cases over the last seven days) – which when compared to other districts in Warwickshire for all ages is Nuneaton & Bedworth 164/100,000, North Warwickshire 236/100,000, Warwick 102/100,000 and Rugby 156/100,000.  So Stratford and Warwick Districts still have the lowest case rates by far.

According to the government’s dashboard 17 new people had a confirmed positive test result across my Wellesbourne Division over seven days ending 20 February which translates into 170/100,000 so is considerably higher than the district average ☹.

The situation regarding SWFT Hospital Beds however has improved and is now 27 (41) confirmed cases of COVID-19 but there are 4 (7) patients in ICU (figures in brackets are from 19 Feb).  Capacity levels have improved with 91 unoccupied general and acute beds.

The cumulative deaths across Stratford District from the start of this second wave (28th August 2020) have sadly increased by a further 6 to 123 with 36 occurring in care homes, 78 in hospital, one in a hospice and seven at home and one in a communal establishment, out of a total of 732 all cause deaths in the district for this new second wave period.

The cumulative total of deaths across Warwickshire for Wave 2 has now increased to 571 from 538 last week within a total of 3060 all cause deaths.  The cumulative total of Covid-19 deaths in Stratford district is 291 since the start of the pandemic and in Warwickshire 1171.

The locally led Lateral Flow Testing facility for people without coronavirus symptoms in Stratford at has now carried out 14,761 tests with 54 positive results.

The messages coming out of Public Health Warwickshire remain focused on conforming to the lockdown restrictions in order to stay safe and protect everyone elseas with the schools scheduled to return on 8th March extreme vigilance and the wearing of face masks and not household mixing (unless you are in a support bubble) is still essential.

Have a good weekend everyone and let’s just keep doing what we have been doing and protect other people and particularly those more vulnerable of all ages.

This week it’s encouraging news that our district wide rates of infection have moved down below the 100 mark as we move towards what we all hope will see the lifting of some restrictions next month and await the update from the PM on Monday.

The figures have dropped again across the district over the last seven days to 83/100,000 from 114 last week, which is encouraging as our current levels are now comparable to the rates of infection at around the end of September.

The over 60’s day rate has also fallen to 74/100,000 (94 last week) (with 31 cases over the last seven days) – a 20% decrease in the number of cases to the previous week, which when compared to other districts in Warwickshire for all ages is Nuneaton & Bedworth 179/100,000, North Warwickshire 171/100,000, Warwick 97/100,000 and Rugby 168/100,000.  So Stratford and Warwick Districts still have the lowest case rates by far.

According to the government’s dashboard 21 new people had a confirmed positive test result in the district as reported on 18 February and between 12 – 18 February 111 people had a confirmed positive test which is a decrease of 23% to the previous 7 days.

The situation regarding SWFT Hospital Beds is now 41 (51) confirmed cases of COVID-19 but there are 7 (7) patients in ICU (figures in brackets are from 12 Feb).  Capacity levels have also improved with 80 unoccupied general and acute beds.

The cumulative deaths across Stratford District from the start of this second wave (28th August 2020) have sadly increased by a further 7 to 117 with 35 occurring in care homes, 73 in hospital, one in a hospice and seven at home and one in a communal establishment, out of a total of 692 all cause deaths in the district for this new second wave period.

The cumulative total of deaths across Warwickshire for Wave 2 has now increased to 538 from 497 last week within a total of 2912 all cause deaths.  The cumulative total of Covid-19 deaths in Stratford district is 285 since the start of the pandemic and in Warwickshire 1138.

The locally led Lateral Flow Testing facility for people without coronavirus symptoms in Stratford at the Courtyard Theatre has now carried out 12,444 tests with 51 positive results.

The vaccine rollout continues to go really well and the efforts by our NHS staff, GP practices and volunteers has just been incredible and my thanks go out to each and every person involved. The sites across my division are continuing their relentless work and these include Hastings House Medical Centre in Wellesbourne, Southam Clinic and Stratford Hospital with the mass vaccination sites at Stoneleigh and at Millennium Point in Birmingham.  All sites are now actively vaccinating those in Group 5 and younger adults with underlying health conditions are also being contacted by the NHS.

Thank goodness it’s been a milder week with more daylight hours, but the message remains a focused one to stay at home, stay safe and take care whilst we await further news on the way forward from the PM on Monday.

Progress on our rates of infection continues to be heading in the right direction as we move to what we all hope will be lifting of some restrictions next month.

The figures have dropped again across the district over the last seven days to 114/100,000 from 148 last week, which is encouraging as our current levels are now comparable to the rates of infection just before Christmas.

However, the over 60’s day rate has only come down to 94/100,000 (108 last week) (with 39 cases over the last seven days) – so similar to the previous week, which when compared to other districts in Warwickshire for all ages is Nuneaton & Bedworth 215/100,000, North Warwickshire 213/100,000, Warwick 138/100,000 and Rugby 233/100,000.  So Stratford and Warwick Districts still have the lowest case rates and in fact Rugby went up a bit.

The situation regarding SWFT Hospital Beds has unfortunately increased a little with 51 (43) confirmed cases of COVID-19 but there are 7 (9) patients in ICU (figures in brackets are from 6 Feb).

The cumulative deaths across Stratford District from the start of this second wave (28th August 2020) have sadly increased by a further 15 to 110 with 35 occurring in care homes, 67 in hospital, one in a hospice and six at home, out of a total of 653 all cause deaths in the district for this new second wave period.

The cumulative total of deaths across Warwickshire for Wave 2 has now jumped to 497 from 440 last week within a total of 2760 all cause deaths.  The cumulative total of Covid-19 deaths in Stratford district is 278 since the start of the pandemic and in Warwickshire 1097.

The new locally led Lateral Flow Testing facility for people without coronavirus symptoms in Stratford at the Courtyard Theatre has now carried out 10,206 tests with 49 positive results.

The vaccine rollout continues to go really well and the efforts by our NHS staff, GP practices and volunteers has just been incredible and my thanks go out to each and every person involved. The sites across my division are working extremely hard and these include Hastings House Medical Centre in Wellesbourne,  Southam Clinic and Stratford Hospital with the mass vaccination sites at Stoneleigh and at Millennium Point in Birmingham.  All sites have now commenced vaccinating those in Group 5 having offered everyone in Groups 1 – 4 a vaccine.

It would be great to see our rates of infection down to double digits next week, so we just have to keep going whatever the weather and gosh it’s been cold this week, so keep warm, stay safe and take care.

Kind regards

Anne

Progress on our rates of infections continues to be made but more slowly than the previous week reinforcing that we must all continue to follow the lockdown rules and not get complacent in light of the success of the vaccine rollout.

Whilst figures have dropped across the district over the last seven days to 148/100,000 from 184 last week which is welcome, our current levels are now comparable to the rates of infection just after Christmas so we still have a way to go to get back to early December levels of 50/100,000.

In addition the over 60’s day rate has only come down to 96/100,000 (108 last week) (with 40 cases over the last seven days), which when compared to other districts in Warwickshire for all ages is Nuneaton & Bedworth 276/100,000, North Warwickshire 277/100,000, Warwick 158/100,000 and Rugby 227/100,000.  So Stratford and Warwick Districts have the lowest case rates.

It’s difficult to compare actual rates of infection between this wave and the first wave as we didn’t have the extensive testing programme in place, but in terms of hospital Covid based cases the numbers are still higher than in early May.

The situation regarding SWFT Hospital Beds has improved with 43 (71) confirmed cases of COVID-19 but there are 9 (9) patients in ICU (figures in brackets are from 29 Jan).

The cumulative deaths across Stratford District from the start of this second wave (28th August 2020) have sadly increased by a further 10 to 95 with 32 occurring in care homes, 57 in hospital and six at home, out of a total of 602 all cause deaths in the district for this new second wave period.

The cumulative total of deaths across Warwickshire for Wave 2 has now jumped to 440 from 378 last week within a total of 2577 all cause deaths.  The cumulative total of Covid-19 deaths in Stratford district is 263 since the start of the pandemic and in Warwickshire 1040.

The new locally led Lateral Flow Testing facility for people without coronavirus symptoms in Stratford at the Courtyard Theatre has now carried out 7844 tests with 44 positive results.

The vaccine rollout continues to gear up momentum and across my division is being delivered from Wellesbourne at Hastings House Medical Centre, Southam Clinic and Stratford Hospital. WCC has also been involved with the setting up of the new mass vaccination site located at Stoneleigh which complements the vaccination facility in Birmingham at Millennium Point.

It would be really good to see our rates of infection come down much more by the end of next week.

Best wishes for the weekend, stay warm and please keep safe, take care and stay home.

Kind regards

Anne
