Two weeks into Lockdown 3 and figures released this morning show that for the SDC area the seven day rate/100,000 is now showing signs of levelling – 344.4/100,000 (338.2 last week) and the over 60’s day rate is 271/100,000 (278.2 last week) (with 113 cases over the last seven days), which when compared to other districts in Warwickshire for all ages is Nuneaton & Bedworth 497.4/100,000, North Warwickshire 386.1/100,000, Warwick 324.2/100,000 and Rugby 527.8/100,000.
The situation regarding SWFT Hospital Beds has continued to increase which is not unexpected with 130 (107) confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 4 (5) patients in ICU (figures in brackets are from 8 Jan). The capacity has consequently decreased to 10% from 12%, inspite of a small increase of ‘open’ beds up 369 to from 364. The cumulative deaths across Stratford District from the start of this second wave (28th August 2020) have sadly increased by a further 11 to 52 with 12 occurring in care homes, 36 in hospital and four at home, out of a total of 484 all cause deaths in the district for this new second wave period. The cumulative total of deaths across Warwickshire for Wave 2 has now jumped to 245 from 202 within a total of 2101 all cause deaths. The cumulative total of Covid-19 deaths in Stratford district is 220 since the start of the pandemic and in Warwickshire 845; over the same period there have been 5607 non Covid-19 related deaths in Warwickshire. The new locally led Lateral Flow Testing facility for people without coronavirus symptoms opened successfully this week in Stratford at the Courtyard Theatre next week and to date has carried out 1201 tests with one positive result. The vaccine rollout is continues to gear up momentum and across my division is being delivered from Wellesbourne at Hastings House Medical Centre, Southam Clinic and Stratford Hospital. WCC is also involved with the setting up of a mass vaccination site which will be located in Stoneleigh in due course and will complement the vaccination facility in Birmingham at Millennium Point which is being offered as an earlier alternative option for residents. Roving teams are carrying out vaccinations in care homes amongst staff and residents and it is anticipated to have all care homes in Warwickshire vaccinated by the end of the month, as this is a priority area. Best wishes for the weekend, stay warm and please keep safe, take care and stay home. In line with national figures our rates of infection have continued to rise since my last update on Monday 4th Jan and figures released this morning show that for the SDC area the seven day rate/100,000 is now 338.2/100,000 and the over 60’s day rate is 278.2/100,000 (with 116 cases over the last seven days), which when compared to other districts in Warwickshire for all ages is Nuneaton & Bedworth 485.8/100,000, North Warwickshire 455,1/100,000, Warwick 392.3/100,000 and Rugby 489.3/100,000. The big jump in cases suggests there may have been a slight time lag in getting the positive case figures with the New Year bank holiday.
The situation regarding SWFT Hospital Beds has also increased with 107 (79) confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 5 (3) patients in ICU (figures in brackets are from 4 Jan). However, the capacity has increased to 12% from 9% on 4 January, which also reflects an increase of ‘open’ beds up to 369 from 286 earlier in the week, which is welcome. The cumulative deaths across Stratford District from the start of this second wave (28th August 2020) have sadly increased by a further seven since reporting on Monday to 41 with 11 occurring in care homes, 27 in hospital and three at home, out of a total of 440 all cause deaths in the district for this new second wave period. The cumulative total of deaths across Warwickshire for Wave 2 has now jumped to 202 from 173 since reporting on Monday (which is likely to include some Christmas/New Year lag time) for a total of 1939 all cause deaths. The cumulative total of Covid-19 deaths in Stratford district is 209 since the start of the pandemic and in Warwickshire 802; over the same period there have been 5485 non Covid-19 related deaths in Warwickshire. A new locally led Lateral Flow Testing facility for people without coronavirus symptoms is opening in Stratford at the Courtyard Theatre next week, with the aim of protecting those most at risk, using rapid testing to speed up the process. The vaccine rollout has now started and is increasing in GP practices together with the Hospital sites; and WCC is involved with the setting up of a mass vaccination site which will be located in Stoneleigh in due course and will compliment another vaccination facility in Birmingham at Millennium Point. 24,000 vaccinations will have been delivered by the end of this week in Warwickshire and the county is doing ‘quite well’ at a local level than some other counties. Essentially the three hospital hubs will be using the Pfizer vaccine and local GP’s will be administering the OxfordAZ vaccine. Roving teams are carrying out vaccinations in care homes amongst staff and residents and it is anticipated to have all care homes in Warwickshire vaccinated by the end of the month, as this is a priority area. The NHS has the capacity locally to deliver 47,000 vaccines per week and the plan is for all the over 50 and clinically vulnerable to be vaccinated by the end of March. There are currently around 10,300 children still in school across the county representing those who are either vulnerable or children of key workers across Nursery, Primary and Secondary facilities and WCC is working with all schools on establishing Lateral Flow Testing for pupils. Best wishes for the weekend, stay warm and please keep safe, take care and stay home. Kind regards Anne Anne Parry County Councillor for Wellesbourne Division SDC Ward Member for Wellesbourne East SDC Portfolio Holder for Regulatory Services Happy New Year everyone and I hope you have all had the best possible Christmas break in view of all the restrictions. I thought it would be helpful to provide an update on the cases situation since last providing an update on 21 December – ie two weeks ago.
As expected the rates of infection have increased significantly since my last update and figures released this morning show that for the SDC area the seven day rate/100,000 is now 237.5/100,000 and the over 60’s day rate is 167.9/100,000 (with 70 cases over the last seven days), which when compared to other districts in Warwickshire for all ages is Nuneaton & Bedworth 369.6/100,000, North Warwickshire 289.6/100,000, Warwick 284/5/100,000 and Rugby 370.9/100,000. The situation regarding SWFT Hospital Beds has increased with 79 (72) confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 5 (2) patients in ICU (figures in brackets are from 21 Dec). However, the capacity has decreased slightly to 9% from 10% on 21 December which also reflects the reduction of ‘open’ beds which is currently 286. Back in early November the number of ‘open’ beds were 424. The cumulative deaths across Stratford District from the start of this second wave (28th August 2020) have sadly increased by a further twelve over the last two weeks to 34, with 11 occurring in care homes, 20 in hospital and three at home, out of a total of 405 all cause deaths in the district for this new second wave period. The cumulative total of deaths across Warwickshire for Wave 2 has now tragically jumped to 173 from 119 two weeks ago for a total of 1822 all cause deaths. The cumulative total of Covid-19 deaths in Stratford district is 202 since the start of the pandemic and in Warwickshire 773; over the same period there have been 5397 non Covid-19 related deaths in Warwickshire. Locally led testing for people without coronavirus symptoms is rolling out across Warwickshire with the aim of protecting those most at risk, using rapid testing to speed up the process. A new hub was launched in Leamington Spa before Christmas and we are awaiting details of a site in Stratford-upon-Avon. The good news is that Warwickshire NHS Trusts are amongst the first to receive the Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccine today which will complement the roll out of the Pfizer vaccine which commenced over three weeks ago from hospital sites. This means the roll out of the OxfordAZ vaccine is also starting this week into GP practices and Care Homes. Whilst excellent progress is being made on the roll out of the vaccine, it’s important to remember that the vaccine will not start to have any real impact until Easter. Thank you to everyone for all your support, but most important of all please keep safe and take care. Anne Anne Parry County Councillor for Wellesbourne Division SDC Ward Member for Wellesbourne East SDC Portfolio Holder for Regulatory Services A bit later than usual with my update this week, but with the situation changing so fast at the moment I was keen for us to get the updated figures today.
The rates of infection have increased across the district and unfortunately an outbreak amongst inpatients and staff in Warwick Hospital a couple of weeks ago did have an impact on capacity, but it appears that this situation is now improving which is very welcome news. Figures released this morning show that for the SDC area the seven day rate/100,000 has increased from 101.5 to 119.9/100,000 and the over 60’s day rate is up from 72 to 81.5/100,000 (with 34 cases over the last seven days - 30 last week), which when compared to other districts in Warwickshire for all ages is Nuneaton & Bedworth 194.8/100,000, North Warwickshire 136.4/100,000, Warwick 212.9/100,000 and Rugby 266.2/100,000. Encouragingly the figures in North Warwickshire have decreased from 157.8/100,000. The situation regarding the open SWFT Hospital Beds has increased with 72 (42) confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 2 (2) patients in ICU (last week’s figures in brackets). However, the capacity has increased slightly to 10% from 6% the previous week which highlights a key factor why we remained in Tier 3 following the review. The cumulative deaths across Stratford District from the start of this second wave (28th August 2020) have sadly increased by a further two to 22, with 10 occurring in care homes, 10 in hospital and two at home, out of a total of 336 all cause deaths in the district for this new second wave period. The cumulative total of deaths across Warwickshire for Wave 2 has now tragically jumped to 119 from 88 last week for a total of 1542 all cause deaths. The cumulative total of Covid-19 deaths in Stratford district is 190 since the start of the pandemic and in Warwickshire 719; over the same period there have been 5165 non Covid-19 related deaths in Warwickshire. Locally led testing for people without coronavirus symptoms is now rolling out across Warwickshire with the aim of protecting those most at risk, using rapid testing to speed up the process. A new hub is being launched in Leamington Spa this week and we are awaiting details of a site in Stratford-upon-Avon. Whilst excellent progress is being made on the roll out of the vaccine, it’s important to remember that the vaccine will not start to have any real impact until Easter. Further information is awaited from the scientists, but it is looking very likely that we will continue to face further lockdowns in the New Year – albeit there is little difference between being in Tier 3 and a full lockdown, but one thing is for sure we must take responsibility for our own decisions on Christmas Day with the new restrictions and think carefully about whom we see and mix with. Most people I have spoken to are doing the right thing in terms of protecting their elderly loved ones by either currently self-isolating or sadly postponing any family gatherings until safer times. My special thoughts go out to all our hard-hit hospitality businesses and everyone who finds themselves on their own this Christmas and unable to meet up with family members due to the new restrictions. Thank you to everyone for all your support, but most important of all please keep safe and may I take this opportunity to extend seasonal greetings at this very challenging and difficult time. Please keep safe and take care. Kind regards Anne Anne Parry County Councillor for Wellesbourne Division SDC Ward Member for Wellesbourne East SDC Portfolio Holder for Regulatory Services edit. Well it’s Friday and now on countdown to 16th December to find out if we will be moving down to Tier 2. It’s been another incredibly busy week, particularly on the council front wearing both district and council hats.
The vaccine rollout seems to be working well and it was just great to see that as a region the World first happened with the Covid jabs from Coventry’s University Hospital going to Margaret Keenan and a William Shakespeare. Figures released this morning shows that for the SDC area the seven day rate/100,000 is now down to 52.3/100,000 and the over 60’s day rate is currently 41/100,000 with 17 cases over the last seven days which is all encouraging and particularly when compared to other districts in Warwickshire which are for all ages Nuneaton & Bedworth 183/100,000, North Warwickshire 124/100,000, Rugby 106/100,000 and Warwick 124/100,000. The situation regarding the open SWFT Hospital Beds has seen a slight increase of Covid inpatients with 42 (31) confirmed cases of COVID-19 and two (5) patients in ICU (last week’s figures in brackets). The cumulative deaths across Stratford District from the start of this second wave (28th August 2020) have sadly increased by a further two to 20, with 10 occurring in care homes, nine in hospital and one at home, out of a total of 307 all cause deaths in the district for this new second wave period. The cumulative total of deaths across Warwickshire for Wave 2 has now tragically jumped to 88 from 42 last week for a total of 1408 all cause deaths. The cumulative total of Covid-19 deaths in Stratford district is 188 since the start of the pandemic and in Warwickshire 688; over the same period there have been 5059 non Covid-19 related deaths in Warwickshire. As you may know, Stratford District Council is exerting as much pressure as possible on the Government to reduce the tiering and put Stratford on Avon District in line with those in at least Tier 2 and Cllr Tony Jefferson the Leader of SDC has again written to Secretary of State Matt Hancock today requesting that the district be made a special case in a bid to help our hospitality businesses which have been forced to close their doors. Tourism and hospitality accounts for 40% of our economy and we are seriously worried that many may not survive or reopen their doors until February, even if we are downgraded to Tier 2. Please continue to support the local businesses with take-aways. And in order to avoid further potential lockdowns in the New Year we must all wear our common sense hats in planning Christmas gatherings. In talking to many residents this week there are certainly lots of people thinking very carefully about doing the right thing in terms of protecting more elderly loved ones by just staying put and not venturing out or putting themselves into self isolation for the next couple of weeks in order to be able to visit parents and grandparents. It’s also important to remember that the vaccine will not start to have any real impact until Easter and as a participant on the Oxford Astra Zeneca Trials I’m really hoping they get the green light from the regulatory authority next week. Take care and keep safe as we are all in this together. Anne Anne Parry County Councillor for Wellesbourne Division SDC Ward Member for Wellesbourne East SDC Portfolio Holder for Regulatory Services Well we are out of Lockdown2 – not that it feels much different being in Tier 3 – and on countdown to Christmas following another rather busy week.
On a positive note have been on a Zoom meeting with Nadhim Zahawi MP this evening the new Minister for Vaccines who advised they planned to vaccinate up to 2 million people before the end of the year, which would be amazing. Figures released this morning shows that for the SDC area the seven day rate/100,000 is now down to 66.9/100,000 and the over 60’s day rate is currently 62.4/100,000 with 26 cases over the last seven days across the district. However this really does highlight the importance of looking after one’s parents and grandparents and also provides evidence that we need to be in a lower tier to protect and support our local businesses. The situation regarding the open 366 SWFT Hospital Beds has seen a slight increase of Covid inpatients with 31 (24) confirmed cases of COVID-19 and five (5) patients in ICU (last week’s figures in brackets). There are 52% of SWFT hospital beds occupied by Non-COVID-19 patients which demonstrates that other procedures and treatments are continuing however there are 8% beds occupied with confirmed COVID-19 patients and 23% beds occupied with suspected COVID-19 patients and a spare capacity of 16% beds. The cumulative deaths across Stratford District from the start of this second wave (28th August 2020) has sadly increased by a further three to 18, with 10 occurring in care homes, seven in hospital and one at home, out of a total of 285 all cause deaths in the district for this new second wave period. The cumulative total of deaths across Warwickshire for Wave 2 is now 42 from a total of 1290 all cause deaths. The cumulative total of Covid-19 deaths in Stratford district is 186 since the start of the pandemic and in Warwickshire 642; over the same period there have been 4978 non Covid-19 related deaths in Warwickshire and 1306 non Covid-19 deaths in Stratford on Avon District. One thing is really important and that is we must keep up our momentum for doing the right thing in terms of protecting ourselves and others, so that we can hopefully come out of Tier 3 by 16th December or before if possible. As you may know, Stratford District Council are exerting as much pressure as possible on the Government to reduce the tiering and put Stratford on Avon District in line with those in either Tier 1 or 2. Take care and keep safe and lets keep working together to keep control of the virus. Have a good weekend. Anne Anne Parry County Councillor for Wellesbourne Division SDC Ward Member for Wellesbourne East SDC Portfolio Holder for Regulatory Services As you can all imagine my inbox has been lit up like a Christmas Tree since Thursday and there is no doubt that we are all shocked to find ourselves in Tier 3 having the lowest rate of cases across the region. The frustration and upset this is causing to our local businesses is extreme which is understandable and I just wanted to advise that both our MP’s – Nadhim Zahawi and Jeremy Wright together with Stratford District Council and Warwickshire County Council are doing absolutely everything they can to implore the government to reconsider the position of South Warwickshire as a whole, in view of the health provision across both Stratford District and Warwick District. Communications have been fired off to Matt Hancock MP, Secretary of State for Health, Robert Jenrick MP, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.
The reason for going for a South Warwickshire focus is because of its area size and population rather than just a Stratford District proposition because it has the support of the South Warwickshire Clinical Commission Group, South Warwickshire Health & Wellbeing Partnership and South Warwickshire COVID-19 Incident Management Team together with Public Health Warwickshire. Figures released yesterday late afternoon shows that there were just seven new cases reported in the last 24 hours for the SDC area and the seven day rate/100,000 was now down to 94.5/100,000. The over 60’s day rate is currently 36/100,000. The situation regarding the open 366 SWFT Hospital Beds has seen a slight increase of Covid inpatients with 24 (20) confirmed cases of COVID-19 and four (5) patients in ICU (last week’s figures in brackets). There are 57% of SWFT hospital beds occupied by Non-COVID-19 patients which demonstrates that other procedures and treatments are continuing however there are 7% beds occupied with confirmed COVID-19 patients and 20% beds occupied with suspected COVID-19 patients and a spare capacity of 16% beds. The cumulative deaths across Stratford District from the start of this second wave (28th August 2020) has increased by three to 15, with eight occurring in care homes and seven in hospital, out of a total of 256 all cause deaths in the district for this new second wave period. The cumulative total of deaths across Warwickshire for Wave 2 is now 42 from a total of 1165 all cause deaths. The cumulative total of Covid-19 deaths in Stratford district is 183 since the start of the pandemic and in Warwickshire 642; over the same period there have been 4853 non Covid-19 related deaths in Warwickshire and 1180 non Covid-19 deaths in Stratford on Avon District. One thing is really important and that is we must keep up our momentum for doing the right thing in terms of protecting ourselves and others, so that we can come out of Tier 3 by 16th December or before if possible. Stay safe and take care. Anne Anne Parry County Councillor for Wellesbourne Division SDC Ward Member for Wellesbourne East SDC Portfolio Holder for Regulatory Services Here we go again and yes this all feels a bit like déjà vu, following the PM’s announcement of a proposed four weeks’ lockdown, and whilst the number of cases across the district have continued to rise, Stratford District remains the lowest in the county with around 140/100,000 confirmed cases over the last seven days.
North Warwickshire’s numbers are double ours and Warwick District, which is home to many students has also seen some significant increases as the chart below shows. Analysis of the cases from the public health experts suggest that most cases are resulting from households mixing – even small groups gathering round a kitchen table with no windows open and the heating on full blast provides an ideal environment for cross infection – so even during the last few days before we go into lockdown it’s just so important to remember hands, face and space, even with close friends and family visiting your home as you say farewell for a few weeks. The local hospitals are continuing to hold up well, which is welcome news, although there are more people being admitted to the COVID wards and increases in ICU numbers. The situation regarding the 423 SWFT Hospital Beds has seen an increase of inpatients with 13 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and four patients in ICU. There are 50% of SWFT hospital beds occupied by Non-COVID-19 patients, 3% occupied with confirmed COVID-19 patients and 24% beds occupied with suspected COVID-19 patients and a spare capacity of 23% beds. The cumulative deaths across Stratford District from the start of this second wave (28th August 2020) is now seven, with five occurring in care homes and two in hospital out of a total of 162 all cause deaths in the district for this new second wave period. The cumulative total of deaths across Warwickshire for Wave 2 is now 12 from a total of 722 all cause deaths. These new figures take the cumulative total of Covid-19 deaths in Stratford district to 175 and in Warwickshire to 612; over the same period there have been 4427 non Covid-19 related deaths in Warwickshire and 1090 non Covid-19 deaths in Stratford on Avon District. The following link leads to a mapping service available on the government website https://coronavirus-staging.data.gov.uk/details/interactive-map Finally Let’s keep doing the right thing Times are tough and people are tired but there are some simple things that we can continue to do to protect each other:
My thoughts are particularly with all the affected businesses during this exceptionally difficult time as it has been a total nightmare for them all and we must do everything we can to support them going forward. Local Welfare Scheme WCC Council Leader Izzi Seccombe has announced that the Warwickshire Local Welfare Scheme which has already provided over £450,000 of support to families through the Covid period, will continue to support our most vulnerable residents. Read more: https://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/news/article/1422/the-warwickshire-local-welfare-scheme-continues-to-support-children-and-families-who-rely-on-free-school-meals Stay safe and take care and let’s just look after each other. Kind regards Anne Anne Parry County Councillor for Wellesbourne Division SDC Ward Member for Wellesbourne East SDC Portfolio Holder for Regulatory Services The number of COVID cases are continuing to rise not only across Stratford on Avon District but across Warwickshire with some sharp rises in Warwick and North Warwickshire districts, which could have implications on us all in terms of the overall numbers for Warwickshire, with the potential to move us up to Tier 2 across the county if these trends continue over the next couple of weeks. As we know, Coventry, Solihull and Birmingham are all now in Tier 2.
The number of cases therefore reported as of this morning across the county are now 5379 up from 4550 on 16th October – an increase of 829 cases over the last seven days. The situation regarding the 423 SWFT Hospital Beds has seen an increase of inpatients with 11 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and two patients in ICU. The cumulative deaths across Stratford District has again sadly increased by one to 170 with the deaths in care home rising by one to 83 from a cumulative of 1231 ‘all cause deaths’ in the district. The cumulative total of all COVID-19 deaths in Warwickshire has increased by two to 606 and over the same period there have been 4309 non COVID-19 related deaths in Warwickshire. Across the county there has been a total of 212 COVID-19 deaths in care homes settings (an increase of one in the last week) compared to 1399 ‘all cause deaths’ in care homes over the same period. There are 46% of SWFT hospital beds occupied by Non-COVID-19 patients, 3% occupied with confirmed COVID-19 patients and 20% beds occupied with suspected COVID-19 patients and a spare capacity of 31% beds. The following link leads to a mapping service available on the government website https://coronavirus-staging.data.gov.uk/details/interactive-map From a Stratford on Avon District perspective over the last seven days our rolling rating is based on around 123/100,000 – the county average is now 141/100,000 so let’s keep focused in doing the right things to protect our communities safety and avoid a local lockdown. Take care and have a good and socially distanced weekend. Anne Parry County Councillor for Wellesbourne Division SDC Ward Member for Wellesbourne East SDC Portfolio Holder for Regulatory Services Well it’s Friday, so here I am again with the latest update on Covid across the district, whilst I have received the usual figures this morning, I have also had an update from the Chief Exec at SDC late this afternoon who has been extensively involved in various Incident Management Team meetings this week for South Warwickshire. The figures over the last seven days have been skewed with not only catch-up numbers but also it would appear that some students at University in other parts of the country provided their home address with their parents when being tested away, which I understand is now being addressed. The analysis of the cases for the district is now helping Public Health Warwickshire to shape the messaging they are putting out, the main points for our district are as follows:
As mentioned above the overall increase rate of cases for the district has reduced over the last week. Last Friday SDC was the joint highest rate across the County, today we are the lowest! This case be shown in the chart below, this provides the number of cases per 100,000 population for the last 7 days (this is for cases which are based on the laboratory confirm sample dates for the period 7/10/20 to 13/10/20) In addition the further chart below provides the actual number of cases per day, with the cumulative total and the average daily cases over a 7 day period, again this chart shows that the increase in new cases has reduced in the last week. The number of cases therefore reported as of this morning across the county are now 4550 up from 3953 on 9th October. The situation regarding the 423 SWFT Hospital Beds remains similar to all the other stats provided a week ago, which means there are five confirmed cases of COVID-19 at present with one patient in the intensive care unit. The cumulative deaths across Stratford District has sadly increased by one to 169 with the deaths in care home remaining at 82 from a cumulative of 1206 ‘all cause deaths’ in the district. The cumulative total of all COVID-19 deaths in Warwickshire has increased by three to 604 and over the same period there have been 4178 non COVID-19 related deaths in Warwickshire. Across the county there has been a total of 212 COVID-19 deaths in care homes settings (no increase in the last week) compared to 1370 ‘all cause deaths’ in care homes over the same period. There are 52% of SWFT hospital beds occupied by Non-COVID-19 patients, 1% occupied with confirmed COVID-19 patients and 14% beds occupied with suspected COVID-19 patients and a spare capacity of 33% beds. The following link leads to a mapping service available on the government website https://coronavirus-staging.data.gov.uk/details/interactive-map From a Stratford on Avon District perspective over the last seven days our rating is based on 85/100,000 so let’s keep focused in doing the right things to protect our communities safe. Take care and have a good and socially distanced weekend. Anne Parry County Councillor for Wellesbourne Division SDC Ward Member for Wellesbourne East SDC Portfolio Holder for Regulatory Services |
